Magic Johnson Celebrates as Trinity Rodman's Injury Fails to Hinder Washington Spirit's Victory

Magic Johnson was in quite a tricky spot during the Washington Spirit vs. Angel City FC matchup last night. While Johnson spent his entire NBA career in the City of Angels, he also partly owns MLB's LA Dodgers. However, more recently he has been supporting and celebrating his partly-owned NFL team Washington Commanders' success. A similar sentiment echoed when the city's soccer team, without their talisman Trinity Rodman, also secured a win, though against LA.

"Great win tonight for our team on the road in LA," Johnson wrote on X. Notably, this was a much-needed win for Washington. Especially after their recent stumble against Kansas City. So far in the league, the team has won 5 out of their 7 matchups, setting them up with a 5-1-1 record so far.

Meanwhile, Angel City continued to struggle, adding another game to their winless streak (0-3-1). The turning point of the game came in the 78th minute, with Makenna Morris stepping up big time. Rosemonde Kouassi delivered a perfectly timed assist, her first in the NWSL, setting Morris up to chip the ball over Angel City's goalkeeper.

That goal sealed the deal, but it wasn't the only highlight. Earlier, Ashley Hatch had put Washington on the board with a powerful left-footed strike, only for Angel City's Messiah Bright to level the score shortly after halftime.

And guess what? The Spirit pulled off this win without two of their key players, Trinity Rodman and Casey Krueger, both out due to injuries. No wonder the former NBA star termed the win as "great". Washington has been proving to be a happy place for the NBA champ.

Magic Johnson's Washington Commanders has been on a roll recently Magic Johnson's Washington Commanders are on a two-game winning streak that started in Week 2 with a win over the New York Giants. It continued into Monday night of Week 3 with another memorable victory—this time against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"Commander Nation, tonight was a big win for our Commanders over a great Cincinnati Bengals team. Jayden Daniels put on a show finishing 21 for 23 with 254 yards and 2 touchdowns! He excelled in his Monday Night debut and set a NFL record high completion percentage for a rookie" Magic shared after the team's second consecutive win .

Both wins showcased impressive scoring ability from the Commanders' offense and special teams, which has been a pleasant surprise. Especially with a rookie quarterback and their fifth kicker of the year. But let's not ignore the elephant in the room. Washington's defense has struggled, particularly the pass defense. Thus allowing significant gains to receivers, Malik Nabers of the Giants and Ja'Marr Chase of the Bengals.

Looking ahead, the Commanders are eager to get cornerback Emmanuel Forbes back from injury this weekend. Will his return make a difference? Magic Johnson would hope so, in order to celebrate another win for Washington.
