Major Colorado Springs-area road project almost wrapped up
This week the Colorado Department of Transportation is wrapping up a multi-million-dollar road improvement project, with closures and delays expected as crews put on the final touches.
Crews will be assembling a "punch list" of touch-up work on the Military Access, Mobility, and Safety Improvement Project that has affected Interstate 25 and South Academy Boulevard near Fort Carson.
A 7.5-mile section of northbound I-25 at the Santa Fe exit will be closed during nighttime hours.
Northbound I-25 traffic will detour by exiting at Santa Fe, going north on U.S. 85/87 to South Academy Boulevard, then turning west and re-entering I-25 north.
Additionally, ongoing drainage improvement work on the Coventry Drive on-ramp, which has caused a full closure, is set to end Friday. In the meantime, traffic will detour north on Maxwell Street, turn east onto U.S. 85/87, and continue southeast to enter South Academy Boulevard.
Southbound South Academy Boulevard will fully close over Bradley Road for work on the bridge deck.
Traffic will divert by exiting onto Bradley Road, traveling east to Main Street, south to U.S. 85/87, and then north to re-enter South Academy Boulevard.
Also, the northbound I-25 off-ramp left turn lanes to westbound South Academy Boulevard tentatively planned to close for drainage pipe installation.
Exiting traffic onto westbound South Academy Boulevard will detour to eastbound South Academy, travel east to U.S. 85/87 and turn around to enter westbound South Academy.
CDOT is also tentatively planning a full closure of northbound South Academy Boulevard between I-25 and US 85/87 for Fountain Creek bridge repairs.
A detour will take Northbound South Academy Boulevard traffic onto I-25 southbound to Mesa Ridge Parkway, where it will then turn east to U.S. 85/87, travel north and re-enter northbound South Academy Boulevard.
