Makeshift bridge made to connect Poga residents on ‘Bob’s Island’

POGA, Tenn. (WJHL) — People in Poga, Tennessee did what they could to stay connected to the region after flooding.

About 21 people live in a part of Poga that was cut off after bridges were washed away due to severe weather brought on by Hurricane Helene.

Resident and store owner Bobby Trivette helped put together a makeshift bridge to give residents a way out of the section.

"It's important," Trivette said. "You know, a lot of people living here got family around Elizabethton, different places. And we didn't have no phone service or anything like that."

The section is referred to as "Bob's Island," named after Trivette.
