Malakoff’s Peace named conference Player of Week in East Texas A&M win

COMMERCE, Texas (KLTV) - Former Malakoff Tiger Ron Peace completed 40 passes and tossed four touchdowns in East Texas A&M's comeback win over Houston Christian Saturday.

The Lions are now 2-0 since the university changed their name to East Texas A&M.

Peace connected with Christian Jourdain for a 20-yard touchdown pass to cap off an 11-play, 85-yard drive and put the Lions up 21-7 with 7:48 left in the second quarter.

In the third quarter, HCU pulled ahead to take a 33-21 lead. Peace and Jourdain linked up for the second time on the day, this time for a 15-yard touchdown pass to end a 5-play, 75-yard drive and pull the Lions within five at 33-28. Houston Christian took the ensuing kickoff 97 yards for a touchdown to put HCU back up by 12 at 40-28.

Later in the quarter, Peace and Jourdain connected for their third touchdown of the day. Peace found Jourdain for a 17-yard touchdown strike to cap off a 7-play, 74-yard drive and bring the Lions within a possession at 40-35.

With 36 seconds left in the game, Peace found Sean Sallis for the game-winning 2-yard touchdown pass to put the Lions ahead 41-40.

Peace was 40-of-65 for 400 yards with four touchdowns and two interceptions. Peace was named Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his performance on Saturday.

East Texas A&M moves to 3-8 on the year and 2-3 in conference play. The Lions wrap up the season at home against Incarnate Word on Nov. 23.
