Man accused of helping steal $85K worth of jewelry from Trumbull Mall
TRUMBULL, Conn. (WTNH) — Trumbull police say one of the suspects accused of smashing a glass display case and then stealing thousands of dollars in jewelry from the Trumbull Mall has been arrested.
Javon Thorbourne, 30, of Bridgeport was already incarcerated for other crimes when Trumbull charged him with first-degree larceny, first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny, first-degree criminal mischief, and breach of peace.
OCTOBER: Thousands in jewelry stolen from Trumbull Mall
The charges stem from about 1:45 p.m. on April 17, when Trumbull police say he was one of three masked suspects who used hammers to smash glass display cases at the Kay's store in the mall.
The smashing noises caused several shoppers to call police to report what they thought were gunshots. Police said they determined no weapons were involved and no injuries were reported.
The suspects are accused of then stealing over $85,000 worth of jewelry before fleeing in a dark four-door sedan.
Police said they later recovered the suspect vehicle, which helped them determine Thorbourne's alleged involvement.
Thorbourne was given a $250,000 bond and arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Nov. 7.
