Man accused of sex with 12-year-old waives preliminary exam; case advances

The case against a 26-year-old Detroiter accused of sex crimes against a child in West Bloomfield has advanced to Oakland County Circuit Court for possible trial.

Joshua Charston Brown-Hill waived his right to a preliminary exam Sept. 19 in 48th District Court, so Judge Marc Barron bound over the case to the higher court.

Brown-Hill is jailed with bond set at $3 million for three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was arrested Aug. 15 after a police officer on patrol reportedly found him and a 12-year-old girl in a vehicle outside a former elementary school site in West Bloomfield Township. Brown-Hill allegedly was aware of the child's age, and is accused in a series of incidents that allegedly happened from June 1 through the day he was arrested.

Brown-Hill is scheduled to be arraigned on Oct. 1 before Oakland County CIrcuit Judge Jacob Cunningham

First-degree criminal sexual conduct is punishable by up to life in prison, with a minimum sentence of 25 years.
