NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) — A Dartmouth man was arraigned Monday in connection with the stabbing death of his girlfriend in New Bedford.

Tyler Dow Baglini, 31, is charged with the murder of 31-year-old Kerri Fidalgo.

New Bedford police were alerted to the situation when Baglini arrived arrived at St. Luke's Hospital on Friday, claiming his girlfriend had been stabbed at 86 Atlantic St.

Court documents obtained by 12 News said one of the victim's sisters told police at the scene that "she did not know anyone named Tyler and everything at the residence was fine." As police were about to leave, the sister reportedly screamed outside the apartment, having found Fidalgo unresponsive in the basement with multiple stab wounds.

Fidalgo was rushed to the hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.

During this time, Baglini was detained at the hospital. Police said he was "argumentative and behaving erratically," telling detectives that "serial killers" had killed his girlfriend and that his "pride got in the way," causing him to flee to the hospital. Baglini allegedly told police the serial killers wanted to kill him too, so he ran out of the house.

Detectives learned that Baglini had arrived at the hospital with a large kitchen knife, stained with what appeared to be blood.

Police said they found Baglini's ID and a journal with his name on it inside the apartment, along with a photo of him.

Officers found Fidalgo's cell phone under the sofa, which contained text messages between her and Baglini. According to court documents, there was an "extensive conversation" from Thursday, Sept. 19, into Friday, Sept. 20, where Baglini threatened to kill himself. Fidalgo reportedly mentioned his paranoia several times and urged him to seek help and take his medication.

The court documents allege that he sent a photo of the kitchen knife to Fidalgo early on the morning she was killed.

The last message she sent to Baglini was just before 10 a.m., stating, "Tyler, we can talk later. After you get checked out. You need help. You need to get better. You're having an episode and you're paranoid. Everything will be okay, but you need help. I love you. I care about you. Please."

In response, Baglini allegedly said, "Goodbye, I really loved you and I forgive you. Time to go to hell; you were the best thing that ever happened to me."

Fidalgo reportedly messaged Baglini's mother explaining her fear and his behavior, but she told her to ignore him, saying he was at the hospital.

During an interview with family members, investigators learned that Fidalgo had worked in the probation department at Third District Court in New Bedford.

Her parents said they did not know Fidalgo had a boyfriend and had never met Baglini, the court documents stated. Another one of Fidalgo's sisters told detectives she overheard Fidalgo on a phone call discussing hotel stays with Baglini after his release from jail, which coincided with a work-related event. The sister recalled Fidalgo saying that Baglini was "very clingy."

A coworker and close friend of Fidalgo's told police the two had started dating after Baglini was released from jail, remembering meeting him once in July and seeing him several times in the passenger seat of Fidalgo's car.

Another sister told police that Fidalgo went to high school with Baglini and they kept in touch until they began talking "more seriously," according to court documents. However, they lost contact, and the sister later realized it was due to his incarceration.

Fidalgo's sister said Baglini was released from jail in June and realized he spent almost every night with Fidalgo at her apartment after looking back through text messages. In the texts, Fidalgo reportedly told her sister she hadn't been happy since Baglini got out of jail and was frustrated with having to take care of him. Additionally, Fidalgo allegedly told her sister that Baglini got angry and yelled when she didn't pay attention to him.

Baglini was held at the hospital overnight for a psychiatric evaluation.

He is currently being held without bail and has been ordered to undergo further competency evaluations at Bridgewater State Hospital. He is due back in court on Oct. 11.

This is still an ongoing investigation.
