Man arrested after he allegedly shot family member’s boyfriend

SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — A man is behind bars today after allegedly shooting his family member's boyfriend, which landed the victim in the Intensive Care Unit.

Kelly Pierre Andrews, 49, was arrested on Sunday and was charged with the following:

Aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury

Felony discharge of a firearm causing bodily injury

Category I restricted person transaction — firearm

Domestic violence in the presence of a child

The first three charges are all second-degree felonies, and the domestic violence charge is a class B misdemeanor.

Officers with Unified Police were dispatched to a shooting involving Andrews and a family member's boyfriend. According to the affidavit of probable cause, Andrews and the victim were in an argument and started physically fighting.

During the fight, Andrews allegedly pulled out a handgun and shot the victim in the leg. The victim fled the scene to a neighbor's house and called 911. Andrews also reportedly threatened family members and fled the scene.

The victim was taken to an area hospital where the probable cause statement said he declined to be interviewed by police and was in the ICU with a broken leg.

Andrews was later located, along with the alleged weapon used in the shooting. He was arrested and booked into Salt Lake County Jail on the aforementioned charges.
