Man caught with machine gun trying to enter Bronx subway tunnel
NEW YORK — A man stopped by police as he tried to walk into a Bronx subway tunnel was caught with a machine gun, police said Wednesday.
NYPD cops on patrol spotted the suspect walking past a "no trespassing" sign toward the entrance to a northbound tunnel inside the Kingsbridge Road subway stop for the B and D lines about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, police said.
When 21-year-old Abraham Sosa was stopped he got angry and as the cops moved in to arrest him he fought back.
During the struggle, the machine gun fell from a bag he was carrying, police said. Inside the bag was a loaded magazine and and another gun part, according to cops.
Sosa, who has two prior arrests, was charged with several gun charges, including possession of a machine gun and ammunition — 25 bullets — as well as assaulting a police officer, resisting arrest and criminal trespass, police said.
During the arrest, a witness got involved and sparred with the cops, kicking one officer's body-worn camera onto the subway tracks and stealing an officer's cell phone, NYPD officials said.
That suspect, Christopher Mayren, was charged with obstructing governmental administration, criminal mischief, possession of stolen property and aggravated harassment. Police said Mayren has one prior arrest.
