Man charged with selling meth in Luzerne County

LUZERNE COUNTY(WBRE/WYOU) — A man is being charged after investigators say he was caught selling methamphetamine in Luzerne County.

According to United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam, 37-year-old Michael Verbitsky of Wilkes-Barre was allegedly found distributing methamphetamine in April 2024.

In November a federal grand jury indicted Verbitsky for drug trafficking charges.

The maximum penalty under federal law for these offenses is imprisonment for 40 years, a term of supervised release following imprisonment, and a fine.

A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. In the Aug. 29 email, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented that he didn't speak out when Harris was called a "DEI hire," believes that white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women, and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust about the need to speak up when people are attacked. The Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) on Saturday released footage showing an officer's alleged use of excessive force against Lich Vu, a 70-year-old Asian man with bone cancer, during a traffic violation encounter in late October. A police officer arrived at the scene and issued both drivers a ticket for an improper U-turn.
