Man charged with stealing vehicle, fleeing police
An Owensboro man was charged with theft and fleeing police early Thursday, after witnesses reported seeing the man steal a vehicle.
An Owensboro Police Department press release on social media says officers were called to the area of Village Run at 1:30 a.m. to reports of a person attempting to get into vehicles.
Reports say witnesses told officers they saw a man steal a sport utility vehicle from the neighbor, and were able to give officers a clothing description. Reports say officers located the vehicle and attempted to make a stop, but the driver fled.
Reports say the driver, later identified as Terrance A Meyer, 18, of the 2300 block of Overlook Park drove the wrong way along Triplett Street before crashing into a utility pole near the intersection of West Fifth Street. Meyer fled the scene on foot and was tracked by an OPD K-9 unit and was taken into custody.
Meyer was charged with theft by unlawful taking (auto) over $1,000, possession of defaced firearm, second-degree fleeing/evading police, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
Meyer was being held Thursday afternoon in the Daviess County Detention Center.
