Man Clocked Going More Than 100 MPH, Fleeing Now In Custody: Police The Gurnee man fled police after being pulled over and was later taken into custody in Gurnee.

LAKE COUNTY, IL — A man who was clocked going more than 10o mph in a 50 mph speed zone in Lake County Thursday night — and then fled police after being pulled over —is now in custody, police said.

Austin M. Williams, of the 5100 block of Red Pine Avenue in Gurnee, has been charged with resisting a peace officer, obstructing a peace officer, reckless driving, aggravated speeding, speeding in a construction zone and fleeing and eluding following his arrest, according to a news release from the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

A deputy clocked Williams' Ford pickup truck going 104 mph while heading south in the area of Route 41 and Wadsworth Road in Wadsworth at about 10:15 p.m. and pulled him over. The speed limit in that area is 50 mph, police said.

While talking to Williams, the deputy told him he needed to get out of his truck. Instead Williams fled in his truck at a high rate of speed. The deputy lost track of his truck but officers later located the truck, which was unoccupied, in the area of Red Pine Avenue and Alpine Court in Gurnee, according to the news release.

A tow truck was called to the scene and after it arrived, a juvenile approached the area and demanded the Ford not be taken, police said. He claimed the truck was his and not involved in any previous incident.

Deputies told the juvenile he needed to leave and go home but he refused, and deputies then took him into custody, according to the news release.

Williams then approached the scene on foot and demanded police release the juvenile. After he walked toward deputies with his fists clenched and aggressively pulled his arm away from a deputy, officers used a Taser on him.

Williams was taken into custody and later released from jail. He is next expected in court on November 6.
