Man drowns after attempt to cross flooded bridge in Iron County: MSHP
IRON COUNTY, Mo. – A 66-year-old man was pronounced dead Monday afternoon after he attempted to drive across a flooded bridge and later drowned while going downstream in Ironton.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the man was driving a 2007 Ford Taurus before 2 p.m. Monday afternoon when he attempted to cross the bridge going westbound on County Road 42 at Knob Creek.

Reportedly, as the man attempted to cross the flooded bridges in his vehicle he was swept off by flood water and floated about a half of a mile down a stream before coming to rest.
The man was later pronounced dead by drowning in the flood, and MSHP said next of kin has been notified.
Parts of southern Missouri received up to six inches of rain Monday afternoon, which prompted flash flooding in several rural areas. Nearby authorities warned residents that rivers and creeks were rising fast and many water rescues were reported.
