Man jailed for attempted murder after stabbing Derby roommate

A man who went on the run after repeatedly stabbing his roommate has been jailed.

Alfid Kalid, 25, stabbed the man he shared a room with at their home in Laverstoke Court, Derby, in September 2023.

After fleeing, he was arrested and told Derbyshire Police he stabbed the man out of revenge for a reported assault - claims the force said were never corroborated.

Kalid, of Peet Street, Derby, was found guilty of attempted murder and on Wednesday, he was jailed for 19 years at Derby Crown Court.

Police said Kalid stabbed his victim so hard it left the weapon buried in his back.

Det Ch Insp Greg McGill said: "That Kalid's victim did not die that day is down to sheer good fortune, as well as the fast actions of the emergency responders who first attended the scene.

"The excuse Kalid gave, that he was assaulted, was investigated and no evidence was found to back up his claim.

"Even if he had been a victim himself, his actions were wrong and very nearly led to a young man nearly losing his life."
