Man pleads no contest to killing two in wrong-way I-80 crash in Omaha
A 25-year-old Oakland, Nebraska, man pleaded no contest to killing two men while he drove drunk down the wrong way on Interstate 80 in Omaha.
Maison King pleaded no contest to two counts of motor vehicle homicide and one count of driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injuries in a Douglas County courtroom Thursday. King's plea comes seven months after he was charged in the deaths of 30-year-old Uber driver Kyle Arnold of Omaha and 26-year-old passenger Ross Lewis of Wilbur.
Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on April 13, according to an affidavit filed by an Omaha police officer, King was driving east in the westbound lanes of I-80. Just west of 24th Street, King, who was driving a red 2021 Kia Sportage, collided nearly head-on with a white 2017 Ford Fusion.
Lewis, who was a back seat passenger in the Fusion, died at the scene. The driver, Arnold, died shortly after being taken by medics to the Nebraska Medical Center. A second Fusion passenger sustained critical chest injuries while a third Fusion passenger had minor injuries.
King, who also suffered serious injuries, had a blood alcohol content of 0.175 — more than twice the legal limit — according to the affidavit.
King faces up to 20 years in prison for each count of motor vehicle homicide. He also faces up to three years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
King's sentencing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 8, 2025.
