Man pushing shopping cart killed by hit-and-run driver, investigators say

A man pushing a shopping a cart across a Vineland street on Thursday was fatally struck by a car that fled the scene, police said. The man, Michael J. Cimback Jr., 72, of Vineland, was trying to cross West Landis Avenue shortly after 5 p.m., police said. He was struck by a dark green Honda sedan that was traveling westbound and continued in that direction after hitting Cimback Jr., according to a release from the Vineland Police Department. Shortly thereafter, an SUV being driven by a 36-year-old Vineland man, hit Cimback Jr. a second time but remained on the scene, the department said. When police responded to the scene at 5:25 p.m., they rushed him to Inspira Medical Center Vineland where he later died from his injuries, investigators said. As of Friday afternoon no charges related to the incident had been filed. Anyone who witnessed the crash was encouraged to contact Vineland Police Officer Anthony Capelli at 856-691-4111 x4350.
