Man robbed of thousands outside downtown Lincoln building, police say
A man was robbed Sunday morning of at least $2,000 after being tackled outside of a downtown Lincoln building, police say.
At about 8 a.m., officers with the Lincoln Police Department were sent to the area of Eighth and R streets after a man reported being robbed of $2,000 to $3,000, LPD spokesperson Erika Thomas said.
The victim told police he had received calls and texts from someone claiming to be associated with Park & Go, notifying him his car had been involved in a crash and needed to be towed. But when the man went to check on his car, he noticed it had not been involved in any kind of crash.
When the man tried to enter his building, a man dressed in all-black tackled him from behind, causing his wallet holding the cash to fall to the ground, Thomas said.
An unknown woman approached the man, offering assistance to pick up his items that had fallen to the ground. She picked up the money, ran to a gray SUV and fled.
LPD asks anyone with information about the incident to contact police at 402-441-6000 or Crimestoppers at 402-475-3600.
