A Spotsylvania man convicted of molesting a little girl in the county nearly a decade ago was ordered Friday to serve four and a half years in prison.

Jose Domingo Lucas, 36, was sentenced in Spotsylvania Circuit Court to a total of 10 years with more than half of it suspended. He was previously convicted of two counts of aggravated sexual battery as part of a plea agreement.

His sentence was within the recommended state sentencing guidelines. Prosecutor Crystal Montague-Holland requested the high end of the guidelines, which was six and a half years.

According to the evidence, the victim reported last year that a man she knows as "Tio Chango" started molesting her when she was 5 years old. The girl said the abuse continued periodically until 2022 and included repeated touchings of her buttocks and private area.

A detective identified the suspect as Domingo Lucas. Domingo Lucas told police that he didn't recall improperly touching the girl, and said he only went into her bedroom to retrieve some headphones, court records state.

Domingo Lucas has been in jail since late October of last year.
