Man Sentenced For Murdering Ex-Fiancée In LI Parking Garage: DA The man was convicted of fatally shooting his ex-fiancée as she walked in the garage of the medical facility she worked at, the DA says.

NASSAU COUNTY, NY — A man was sentenced to 40 years to life in prison after he was convicted of murdering his former fiancée in March 2022 in the underground parking garage of a medical facility where she worked in New Hyde Park, Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly announced Friday.

Quay Sean Hines, a/k/a Quay-Sean Renard Hines, 33, was convicted by a jury on Sept. 26 of one count of second-degree murder and two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

"Quay Sean Hines was obsessed with his former fiancée Amelia Laguerre and her desire to move on with her life and leave their relationship in the past," Donnelly said in a news release. "He destroyed a family and ripped a young mother from her child. He gunned her down because of his selfishness and his ego. And for that horrific brutality, this defendant should spend the rest of his life in prison. We continue to keep Amelia's family and friends in our thoughts and prayers."

At 4:08 p.m. March 31, 2022, Amelia Laguerre, 33, entered the underground parking garage of the office building where she worked, located at 1999/1991 Marcus Ave., New Hyde Park, officials said.

Hines, armed with a loaded firearm, repeatedly fired at Laguerre, striking her nine times, and then fled the garage, prosecutors said. Officers brought Laguerre to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset where she was pronounced dead at 4:49 p.m., authorities said.

Hines was arrested on April 8, 2022, in Merrick by members of the Nassau County Police Department's Bureau of Special Operations and Homicide Squad.

He pleaded not guilty following his indictment in 2022.

Laguerre's child was 5 at the time of her shooting. Hines is not the father of her child, according to officials.

Nassau Police Homicide Detective Capt. Stephen Fitzpatrick said the shooting was preceded by months of stalking .

According to Fitzpatrick, Laguerre was in an abusive, two-year relationship with Hines.

"Toward the end of their relationship, she started to confide in family and friends," he said. She described the relationship as "becoming violent and that Quay-Sean had become physically and mentally abusive."

Fitzpatrick said Hines wrecked her property, burnt her clothes, and damaged her son's belongings. Hines was also suspected of breaking into her home in October 2021.

After their breakup in 2021, Hines began to stalk her and show up at her work unannounced, hoping to "rekindle the relationship," Fitzpatrick added. When his efforts weren't reciprocated, Hines would reportedly get into heated arguments with Laguerre and then leave.

Hines is represented by Scott Gross and Gregory Zak.
