CHICAGO — Chicago police are investigating a stabbing on the CTA Orange Line early Friday morning.

The stabbing happened around 4:30 a.m. Friday on a CTA train at Washington Street and Wells Street.

According to police, a 32-year-old man was on an Orange Line train when two men took out a "cutting instrument" and stabbed in the left side.

The offenders exited the train and fled in an unknown direction. The victim was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition.

No one is in custody. Area Three Detectives are investigating.

Loop-bound Orange Line trains are still standing at Washington/Wells due to a police investigation.

Orange Line and Purple Line Express trains will be rerouted to the outer Loop (trains will board and exit on the Brown Line platforms at Washington/Wells, Quincy/Wells, LaSalle/Van Buren, State/Van Buren, Adams/Wabash, Washington/Wabash, State/Lake and Clark/Lake).

Service on the Pink Line has resumed and trains are now running normally.

This is a developing story. Check back for details.
