DAVIDSON COUNTY — A deputy used a Taser to shock a Thomasville man who was intoxicated and walking down Lacy Helper Road with a sawed-off shotgun on Saturday, according to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office.

Willie Junior Johnson, 45, was charged with felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, felony going armed to the terror of the public, resisting arrest, felony possession of a firearm by a felon, communicating threats, drunk and disorderly, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Deputies went to 140 Ellwood Circle south of Thomasville after a 911 caller reported Johnson was intoxicated and shooting from the door of his mobile home.

When they arrived, Johnson was walking down Lacy Helper Road with a sawed-off shotgun. According to deputies, he ignored commands to drop the gun and continued to walk away.

After a brief standoff, Johnson eventually dropped the gun but continued to be combative and resist officers while they were trying to take him into custody, the sheriff's office said.

At that point, officers used a Taser.

No bond or court date information was provided.
