OCALA, Fla. (WCJB) - Organizers in Marion County aren't holding their horses when it comes to equine education.

Organizers helped introduce people to the horse industry during the first ever Equine Initiative meeting at Jumbolair Aviation Estates in Ocala Thursday afternoon.

Ocala Marion County Chamber of Economic Partnership officials partnered with other organizers to host the event.

One of their goals is to help students learn about horses and have experiences with them.

"So gentle carousel miniature therapy horses takes one of their therapy horses to the school with a book and the book is about the horse, and the book has to do with kindness or any positive action between people is what they encourage and after they've read the book out loud to the students, the character in the book comes out of the horse trailer" said Director of Equine Initiative Louisa Barton.

Organizers are hosting two more events in November at the Florida Horse Park and hope to raise $50,000 by the end of the year.
