Marquette County Land Bank Authority demolishes 3rd St. building in Ishpeming

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - The Marquette County Land Bank Authority (MCLBA) is taking action on a blighted structure in Ishpeming .

The Land Bank demolished the building at 701 N. Third St. on Thursday. The demolition cost about $19,000 and was funded by a grant from the State Land Bank Authority.

MCLBA Housing Specialist Antonio Adan says the Land Bank will work closely with the Ishpeming government and residents to decide what to put on the lot.

"This could be a site for mixed-use development," said Adan. "It could be what we consider infill housing or infill development. The advantage to that is the infrastructure is already here, so it's a little bit less cost-prohibitive to put up a structure. What we want to see is what the community wants to see. [We're] making sure that people who live here have an opportunity to also walk around and also raise a family. Part of our mission, actually, with the Land Bank is to create vibrant communities in the process."

Adan says if the MCLBA can secure funds, it can have a building on the lot as early as next year.
