NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WLUC) - Voters in three townships in Marquette County passed a millage to support the Iron Ore Heritage Trail (IOHT) .

Residents in Ely, Humboldt, and Republic Townships voted to pass a millage of 0.197 for six years. Bob Hendrickson, IOHT trail administrator, said that equates to roughly $39,000 a year over the three municipalities, although that number could change. Funds will be used for trail and infrastructure repairs and additions.

Now all trail sections, ten municipalities, will be represented. Hendrickson says it's the start of a new chapter for the Iron Ore Heritage Trail.

"We're looking forward to working with these additional communities, I think they've always been part of it. They've always been the sponsor for that trail for the ORV section of it. We're going to continue to have it as a multipurpose trail so there's – you won't see a lot of changes other than improvements from here on out, and that's what we're looking forward to doing," Hendrickson said.

Hendrickson says the millage is in effect from 2025 to 2030.
