Top 5 weekend events: Piedmont Arts opening reception, Holiday Arts and Crafts Show, Fido's Finds Big Basement Sale, Veteran's Day Service

Martinsville and Henry County have a variety of different happenings this weekend, starting with opportunities to begin local holiday shopping. For an elevated art experience right in our backyard, people can visit Piedmont Arts for a gallery experience, and to celebrate and honor veterans, people can attend the annual Veteran's Day service on Monday or the Veteran's Day Banquet on Saturday.

Piedmont Arts opening reception

Every few months Martinsville's local art museum Piedmont Arts changes out its galleries to showcase a new exhibit at no cost to the public. This session of exhibits features The Art of the Quilt, a biennial exhibit that features regional artists' quilt work. At 5:30 p.m. on Friday the museum will hold an opening reception with light refreshments and live music. RSVP at piedmontarts.org by Thursday.

Holiday Arts and Crafts Show

Start your holiday shopping early with local items at the Reynold's Homestead Holiday Arts and Crafts Show. This year's event will feature over two dozen venders — both returning and new artists — from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Homestead's Community Engagement Center. Items will include, but are not limited to, glass ornaments, suncatchers, art, tote bags, pillows, ceramics, jewelry, wine and cider, baked goods, baskets, local honey and so much more.

Fido's Finds Big Basement Sale

Fido's Finds is a volunteer run thrift shop that supports the Martinsville-Henry County SPCA. Periodically the store will run sales just like this weekend's Big Basement Sale. On Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fido's will have the biggest sale in store history at its last basement sale of 2024.

Veterans Day Banquet

The Horsepasture Volunteer Fire Department will begin celebrating and honoring veterans with a banquet on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. Guest speaker will be American Legion Department of Virginia 6th District Commander Makea S. Barton. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased by calling 276-403-2062 or 276-340-5169.

Veterans Day Service

The annual Veteran's Day Service at the HJDB Event Center will take place on Monday at 11 a.m. Special this year will be the dedication of the Vietnam Bench at the Bassett Historical Center after the service sponsored by the Veteran Service Organization.
