Mary L. Simons-lucas

Mary L. Simons-Lucas, 70, of Shavertown, passed away, Thursday, November 29, 2007, at her home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Gertrude Armitage Ryder.
She was a graduate of Kingston High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.
Her career was spent in all aspects of nursing. She spent most of career working with the local veterans’ hospital as a nurse.
She worked in numerous areas of nursing, including hospital, hospice and later finished her career in medical records at the Meadows Nursing Facility in Dallas.
While working in hospice care, she was elected by her peers as a Nurse of Hope. With this position she was able to speak to groups and at events to teach and share her ideas of nursing to her peers.
She enjoyed singing and dancing. She was able to share her talents with people by being a member of the Sister Act Choir Group, an outreach music ministry that performed at many events throughout the state of Pennsylvania.
She was also a faithful member of the Dallas United Methodist Church Choir.
She is survived by son, John Simons and his wife, JoEllen, of Killingworth, Conn.; daughters, Susan Simons-Williams, of Shavertown, and Gail Wyberski and her husband, Joseph, of Dallas; five grandchildren, Madison and Rylee Simons, Mary Beth Lawless, Joseph and Michael Wyberski; sister, Susan Jordan, of Dallas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, in the Dallas United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Lewis officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association, Wilkes-Barre.
