Mary Margaret Judith Hooper OBITUARY

Mary Margaret Judith Hooper

Mary Margaret Judith Hooper lived like a She-Wolf. She developed her own circadian rhythm after working all shifts as an RN, monitoring the time by the ever-present watch on her wrist. She slept when she could, always in a beautifully curated den of soft sheets and blankets. And Judy always slept extremely well.

She bore three pups: Charles "Charlie" Daniel Krank, Stephen Korty Krank and Meghan Rose Krank. She carried them like Romulus and Remus (with any one of the three scrambling to keep up) across continents and countries. She fed and nurtured them as best she could, the long protector and procurator of sustenance and love.

She was the consummate alpha- the first born to Korty Julian and Margaret Emeilia (nee Tucek) and the eldest of her beloved siblings: Eliza Furlong, Susie McBride, Barbara Jean Hooper, Catherine Balboni and John Hooper. She was predeceased by her parents, youngest brother Jimmy and within the month prior to her own passing, was witness to that of her youngest sister Theresa.

Judy, known as "Sarge" to the Veterans she worked with on the psych unit at the Palo Alto VA, was a dedicated nurse. Loyal to the core: she was a devoted daughter, proud sister, determined mother, grateful Granny to Brian Krank, Meghan McLean, Augusta and Lara Burke and loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Above all, she maintained a lifelong dedication and abiding love for her husband Daniel Frederick Krank.

Three things of which she was inordinately proud: the trophy of having been the first child born in the year 1935, the place of her birth (Dallas Texas) and of her three children. The evening before she passed, she ate a beautiful meal with her children, her daughters-in-law Tree and Angevic and granddaughter Meghan. Although she was very, very tired, she was happy.

One can imagine, back in her room that night, the She-Wolf turned three times in her bed as the light of the waning moon filtered softly through her window. Judy lay down, content in her soul, then fell into her deep and final sleep. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the VA, St. Vincent de Paul on her behalf to support families affected by PTSD.
