Mary M. (Balent) Smith, of Penn Avenue in Exeter, died Saturday at Highland
Manor Nursing Home. Born April 28, 1912, in Exeter, she was the daughter of
the late Andrew and Anna Balent. She was a member of St. John the Baptist
Church in Pittston. Before retiring, she was employed in the garment industry.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul G.; daughters, Shirley and
Arlene; and sister, Anna Yakovich. Surviving are sons, Paul G., Jr., and
Robert M., both of Exeter; daughter, Anna Marie Pardoski, Hatfield; sisters,
Helen and Margaret Balent, both of Exeter; brother, Michael, Florida; 22
grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral
services will be at 9 a.m. Monday from Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming
Ave., Wyoming, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. John the
Baptist Church. Interment will be in the parish cemetery in Exeter. Friends
may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be
made to the St. John the Baptist Education Fund in Pittston.
