MA's 8th Congressional District Elections 2024: Polls Closed
MASSACHUSETTS — It's 8 p.m. on Election Day, meaning the polls are closed across Massachusetts. Now, it's up to town clerks to count up the ballots in races ranging from state representatives to senators and the president.
That includes the race for the 8th Congressional District between Democratic Incumbent Stephen Lynch and Republican challenger Robert Burke. Patch will have those results in this story as they come in throughout the night.
The 8th Congressional District covers numerous wards in Boston; Easton, in Bristol County; Avon, Braintree, Canton, Dedham, Holbrook, Norwood, Quincy, Stoughton, Walpole, Westwood, Weymouth and some of Milton in Norfolk County; and Abington, Brockton, East Bridgewater, Hingham, Hull, West Bridgewater and Whitman in Plymouth County.
Lynch has represented the district since October 2001, when he was sworn-in after the death of then Rep. John Joseph Moakley.
His opponent, Robert Burke, cites immigration as his top issue.
"I'm excited to represent the biggest party in MA 8th: The Independents, Democrats, and Republicans who are tired of the Kamala-Lynch open border, and all the migrant aliens eating up +1B in state tax money for hotels," a statement on his website reads.
"Massachusetts tax money that should have gone to help our kids, our roads, our schools, & our veterans. Close the border, let's get America's house in order and take care of citizens first."
