Massive fire burning at North Jacksonville tire recycling center could take days to extinguish

Crews have been working to contain a fire at a tire recycling center in Eastport in North Jacksonville since early Tuesday morning.

Jacksonville City Council member Mike Gay, who represents the area, went to the fire location after seeing people talking about it on social media. He said the call came in around midnight at the facility, Atlantic Can Recycling, 11985 Palm Lake Drive.

>>> <<< Gay said it could take firefighters days to put out the blaze because there are no fire hydrants at the facility. Gay said that fire crews must pump water from a nearby apartment complex and drive it back to the fire.

Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department Capt. Eric Prosswimmer said the debris they're trying to extinguish is spread throughout a three- to four-acre area.

"We're probably going to be here for a while," he said. "Every time we turn the water off, it tends to flare right back up because of the heat that's emitted."

"Rubber is a very difficult thing to extinguish, it burns very hot," Prosswimmer said. "It produces a lot of black smoke."

Prosswimmer said JFRD is revaluating its firefighting method on the blaze and will be deciding on whether to use foam.

Bradley Cooper went viral when he revealed the "Wedding Crashers" scene that changed his approach to acting. He explained that Vince Vaughn would "destroy" the scene they were doing, and then he'd ask for another take. He was very complimentary of the actor's comedic skills and improv prowess, and now Vaughn's "Bad Monkey "co-stars are sharing what it was like to work with "constant comedic genius." For a bit of context, Bill Lawrence's book-to-screen adaptation of Carl Hiaasen's "Bad Monkey" on the TV schedule. In it Vince Vaughn plays former detective turned restaurant health inspector Andrew Yancy. In the show, he sets out to solve the mystery of a severed arm, and he's hilarious as he travels around the Florida Keys trying to figure out whodunnit. When I spoke to his co-stars, Charlotte Lawrence and Meredith Hagner, about him during an interview for CinemaBlend they couldn't help but sing his praises.
