Matt Hague hired as Pittsburgh Pirates hitting coach
The Pittsburgh Pirates are hiring Matt Hague as the club's new hitting coach, Pittsburgh's Action Sports reporter Ashley Liotus has confirmed.
Hague had been a coach in the Toronto Blue Jays organization since 2020, eventually working his way up to the major league club as an assistant hitting coach last season.
Hague replaces Andy Haines, who was fired along with bullpen coach Justin Meccage in October after the Pirates finished last in the National League Central Division.
The move brings Hague, 39, back to the franchise that selected him out of Oklahoma State in the 2008 draft.
Hague batted .226 with seven RBI in parts of three major league seasons with Pittsburgh (2012 and 2014) and Toronto (2015). He also played for the Hanshin Tigers in Japan.
