Mayor Nicole Kalloch reelected to Rockland City Council

Mayor Nicole Kalloch won reelection to the Rockland City Council on Tuesday.

Kalloch, who ran for the only open seat on the council against newcomer David Statman, received 2,055 votes, according to unofficial results. Statman received 1,418 votes.

It will be Kalloch's second term on the council.

The mayor, 36, has lived in Rockland for nine years and currently oversees accounting for her husband's contracting business, J.K. Kalloch. During her time on the council, she helped pass a stormwater bond, remove some barriers to housing creation, and maintain a budget without municipal tax hikes, among other things, according to her campaign.

In the coming years, Kalloch has said the council could still do more to increase affordable housing, make jobs more accessible, lower the tax burden and modernize the road and stormwater systems.

Statman is a retired physics and physical chemistry professor who had pledged to use his analytical skills to look for sustainable and affordable solutions for housing in the city, and to make sure to enlist experts when he doesn't know the answers himself.

"I want to thank everybody who supported my campaign and everybody who came out and voted," Kalloch said in an interview after winning reelection. "I'm honored to earn the trust of Rockland residents and to serve on City Council once again, and I just look forward to bringing a positive difference to our community."
