Many high school football fans around the country are familiar with the
Berwick High School football team.

Now they’ll have the opportunity to see the Bulldogs live on television.
Berwick, which has won six state championships and three USA Today mythical
national titles, will play Bishop McDevitt at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 7 at Crispin
Field in a game that will be televised on either ESPNU or ESPN2, Berwick
athletic director Tim Honeywell confirmed Saturday.

The game was originally set for Oct. 8, but pushed up to accommodate the
television coverage.

Honeywell said the Friday night game will likely be televised on ESPNU,
which focuses primarily on college sports. But the station is televising four
high school football games this fall. The other three will be in Texas,
Alabama and Arkansas.

The game will also be replayed twice, either on ESPNU or ESPN2.

Following the game, the band “Cold” will perform a live 60- to 90-minute
concert on the field next to the football stadium.

“It’s a big deal for us,” Honeywell said. “It’s a big deal for District 2
and the Wyoming Valley Conference.”

Honeywell said Crispin Field can hold a standing-room only crowd of 10,000.

And with Class 4A powerhouse Bishop McDevitt coming to town, fans will be
crammed into every inch of the stadium. The Crusaders will be led by senior
running back LeSean McCoy, who is expected to be one of the best players in
the country.

Berwick should be one of the top teams in the state in Class 3A. The Dawgs
will be led by all-state running back Brant Quick.

McDevitt defeated Berwick 23-20 last season as McCoy rushed for 277 yards
in the game.

“We’re expecting a big crowd for this game, that’s for sure,” Honeywell
said.

Honeywell said he hopes the starting time of 7:30 p.m. will allow players
from other teams to be able to make the trek to Berwick to catch the final
moments of the game, then the concert.
