The new six-story parking garage is expected to offer 3,500 spaces right next to the airport terminal. Initially, it was expected to be finished in 2026, but due to delays, it is unclear when the project will be completed.
Earlier this year, a portion of McGhee Tyson's Long-Term Parking Lot was closed due to the project.
In 2023, a spokesperson for the airport explained that they were working on upgrades to keep up with East Tennessee's growth. During peak times in their busiest month, they were seeing parking and planes being around 90% full on average, the spokesperson shared.
Along with the additional parking, the airport is also planning to add six new gates to the concourse by 2028.
