BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Several calls came in about an injured osprey in Melbourne Friday night, according to local officials in a statement on Saturday.

The Osprey had now managed to get around the backyard of a house nearby. The reporting person and WFRescuer "Debbie" both knocked on the door of the house but did not get any response.

It was around 10:30pm at night and the WILD Florida Rescue dispatch didn't want Debbie to approach the bird without the homeowner's permission for Debbie's safety.

"We called the non-emergency dispatch line of our friends at the Melbourne Police Department and explained the situation," said a WILD Florida Rescue spokesperson.

"They gracefully sent Officer Haycock to the location to escort Debbie while she went in the backyard of the property to rescue the Osprey!

The bird was captured and safely transported to a care center. WILD Florida Rescue would like to thank you to all who called in about the bird and a thank you to Melbourne Police Department for helping them rescue this bird.

"We are grateful that you sent this wonderful officer and all that you do."
