DILLSBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — A family honored their late son Sunday through a chili cook-off, giving back to local students.

The 5th Annual Alex's Chili Cook-Off For A Cause was held at the Greystone Brew House in Dillsburg.

To celebrate, a new HACC culinary scholarship was created, where Alex Smith graduated as a culinary arts student.

He later worked as a chef apprentice at Greystone before he passed away in 2018.

"I know Alex is shining down," Terri Smith, Alex's mom, said. "He's looking down, and he would be so delighted to see how how this has grown into the where we're at now and all the people coming together and they're coming together with food. They're coming together to help other people. And we're helping other students with that."
