Mental Health and Addictions Symposium to be held in Prince George November 13-14

The 2024 Mental Health and Addictions Symposium: A Pathway Forward will be held in Prince George on November 13 and 14.

The event hosted by North Central Local Government Association (NCLGA), in collaboration with the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation, the City of Prince George, and the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George, will take place at the Prince George Conference and Civic Centre, located at 808 Canada Games Way.

This year's keynote speaker is former NHL goaltender, coach, and Olympic silver medallist Corey Hirsch, who will share his insights on mental health and resilience.

The program will also feature a diverse lineup of speakers, including, Dr. Barbara Kane, head of the psychiatry department, University Hospital of Northern British Columbia, Janine Stevenson and Andrea Durban from Community Action Initiative, Dr. Paul Farnan, clinical associate professor, University of British Columbia and Acasia Preston, Raelene Hodgson, and Colleen Purcka from Foundry BC among others.

The symposium will feature informative presentations, engaging plenary panel discussions, and six concurrent sessions aimed at fostering dialogue among community leaders in mental health and addictions services, as well as local and Indigenous government representatives.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to explore tradeshow booths. .A key outcome of the event will be the signing of the Mental Health and Addictions Accord, which aims to promote mental well-being and combat substance misuse in communities.

"Featuring expert voices and community leaders in mental health and addictions services, the Symposium promises impactful discussions and insightful dialogue for all participants," NCLGA President Judy Greenaway said.
