The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. near Greenfield and McKellips roads , just southwest of Falcon Field Airport.

A Honda HA-420 jet crashed at the airport and appears to have slid through the fencing before striking a vehicle outside of the airport property.

Five people were aboard the plane, four of whom died at the scene.

  • Spencer Lindahl, age 43
  • Rustin Randall, age 48

Mesa police say one person on the plane survived and is hospitalized with burn injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was also killed in the fiery crash but has not been identified since next-of-kin notifications are ongoing.

Greenfield Road is still closed in both directions from McKellips to McDowell as of Wednesday morning. Police ask drivers to be cautious in the area as investigators are on the scene.

Aerial video from the AZFamily News Chopper showed heavy smoke billowing from a road near the airport where the airplane and vehicle collided.

It's unclear what led up to the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is leading the investigation into the crash.
