The Miami Hurricanes are off to a 5-0 start this season and are ranked No. 8 in the nation. Off taking the Baha Mar Bahamas Hoops Championship with wins over Georgia and Kansas State, the team has had nine days between games. That’s set to end tonight. In bigtime fashion.

Miami certainly has its work cut out. The Canes will face a No. 12-ranked Kentucky team that enters with a 5-1 record. Miami is led by five players averaging in double-digits – Wooga Poplar leads the way with 18.0 points and 6.0 rebounds and has emerged as a major playmaker. Matthew Cleveland averages 16.8 points, Nijel Pack 16.0 and 4.0 assists, Omier 15.8 points and 9.2 rebounds and Bensley Joseph 11.6 points. Kentucky has six players averaging in double figures. Leading the way is Antonio Reeves (19.0 PPG, 5.0 RPG) with Rob Dillingham averaging 16.0 points as a three-point specialist (14-28 from long range). Tre Mitchell averages 15.0 points and 6.2 rebounds with eight blocks in the team’s six games, and DJ Wagner averages 14.5 points, Reed Sheppard 10.8 points and Justin Edwards 10.0 points.

The University of Miami men’s basketball team rose to No. 8 in the Associated Press Top 25 Poll and USA TODAY Coaches Poll, as announced Monday afternoon.
The No. 8 ranking is the highest regular season ranking for the Hurricanes since Dec. 18, 2017, when Miami checked in at No. 6 and No. 7 in the AP poll and Coaches Poll, respectively. Miami was ranked third in the Coaches Poll in the final postseason ranking of the 2022-23 season.
Miami (5-0) has appeared in 18 straight AP polls, setting a new program record for consecutive weeks in the AP national rankings. The previous record was 17, set during the 2015-16 season. The 18-week-mark also ties the program record for consecutive appearances in the Coaches Poll.
Seventh-ranked Duke and No. 17 North Carolina join Miami in the AP Top-25, while Florida State is receiving votes in the poll.
The Hurricanes will head to Lexington, Ky., for their first true road contest of the season on Nov. 28, taking on No. 12 Kentucky in the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge. Tipoff in Rupp Arena is set for 7:30 p.m. and the game will air on ESPN.
