ichael F. Alba, 79, of Greater Pittston, died Monday at Wilkes-Barre
General Hospital.
Born May 1, 1922, in Pittston Township, he was a son of the late Salvatore
and Anna (Silla) Alba. He worked for Levin’s Furniture, Pittston, and Milazzo
Industries. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving as a private
first class in the 15th Engineering Battalion in the European-African-Middle
Eastern Campaign. He received four Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart, World
War II Victory Medal and Good Conduct Medal.
He was a member of the Yatesville Council, Jenkins Township Lions Club,
Montedoro Society of Pittston and the Holy Name Society of Mount Carmel Roman
Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Angelo and Joseph; and sister,
Jenny Manzi.
Surviving are his wife, Mary (Gigliello) Alba; son, Salvatore, Drums,
Butler Township; daughter, Ann Walsh, Pittston; three grandchildren; sisters,
Nellie Cuccarelli, Syracuse, N.Y.; and Rose Conway, Keansburg, N.J.; brothers,
Charles, Hughestown; and James, Sam, Ross and Frank, all of Pittston; and
numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be at 9 a.m. Friday at Graziano Funeral Home Inc.,
a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Roman Catholic Church. Interment will be in
