Michael Strahan Is a Grandpa! Host and Former Athlete Reveals Daughter Tanita Welcomed Her First Baby — a Boy!

Michael Strahan is a grandpa!

During the Fox NFL Sunday show on Sept. 22, the Good Morning America anchor announced that his eldest daughter Tanita gave birth to a baby boy named Onyx, according to a PEOPLE staffer.

Additional details about the latest addition to the family were not revealed.

Meanwhile, Tanita, 32, has not addressed her pregnancy publicly and her most recent Instagram post was in October 2023.

The Los Angeles based illustrator is Michael's eldest of four children . He shares Tanita with his first wife, Wanda Hutchins. She was born in Germany, but lived in Houston, Texas, until her parents divorced, after which she moved back to Germany with her mother.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in 2016, Tanita spoke about how growing up in Germany made her the laidback person she is. "I've never been the type of person to be starstruck. Growing up in Germany, no one cared about stuff like that," she said.

Tanita moved back to the United States in high school and went on to study design and visual communication at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles.

In a 2013 interview with New York Family , Michael said that Tanita is "kind of like me in the sense that she has a very strong personality, but a silent strong personality."

He added, "She's not going to be one to walk into a room and make it all about her. She definitely has an opinion and she's very smart and she knows what she wants, which I love about her."

Michael also shares son Michael Strahan Jr., 29 with Hutchins, and twin daughters Isabella and Sophia, 19, with his second wife, Jean Muggli .

The Good Morning America host often praises his family , telling PEOPLE in 2016 that he credits his kids as his source of strength. "To me it's all about family, now more than anything," he said.

Michael made a sweet celebratory post for Tanita for her 31st birthday on Instagram .

At the time, the talk show host shared two photos of himself with his daughter, one of which was a throwback of them embracing when she was a toddler.

"Happy birthday to my first born ," he wrote in the caption. "Please help me wish her the most amazing day. So proud of the person and artist you have become my baby. Proud to be your Dad."
