Michigan moves up to No. 2 in latest CFP rankings

The latest installment of the College Football Playoff rankings is out with the Michigan Wolverines moving up to No. 2 after a 30-24 win over Ohio State. Georgia remained No. 1 after a victory over Georgia Tech, Washington moved up from No. 4 to 3 after a tougher than expected win over Washington State, and Florida State is No. 4. Oregon and Ohio State are the first two out.

The allegations surrounding the Michigan football program over an illegal on-site scouting operation have not affected the Wolverines in the rankings. Michigan finished the regular season 12-0 on the season after the big win over the Buckeyes. The Wolverines will now face Iowa Saturday in Indianapolis in the Big Ten championship game.

“.... Nobody can have it better than to be here. That’s my emotions,” Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh said. “That’s how I’m feeling once again walking up the steps of Schembechler Hall [Monday], seeing that sign ‘those who stay’ ... it resonates like it does every day. Our goal of being Big Ten East champions has been accomplished. Now we’re taking our shot at Big Ten champions for the third straight year.”

Michigan assistant Sherrone Moore, meanwhile, continues to impress. He was the guardian of victory in Harbaugh’s absence Saturday.

“I probably just need to continue what I’ve been doing and trust the process,” he said when asked what he’d learned about himself. “Not try to look too far ahead and be in the moment. I continue to do that.

“There was a moment before the game, it was like a beautiful calm. The crowd was singing ‘Seven Nation Army’ and I just looked at the players and said, man, I’ve got full trust in them. We’re all good. Trust the plan — trust the process. We tell the players the same thing so, as coaches, we have to do the same thing, too.”

It’s paid off.
