Michigan State offensive linemen Kevin Wigenton, Ethan Boyd to enter transfer portal

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State offensive lineman Kevin Wigenton Ethan Boyd intend to enter the transfer portal, according to reports from ESPN’s Pete Thamel released Monday evening.

Wigenton started six games for Michigan State this season, while Boyd started three. Both are redshirt sophomores and have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Wigenton split time at right guard this season with fellow redshirt sophomore Geno VanDeMark . Wigenton redshirted his freshman season in 2021 and appeared in four games in 2022.

Wigenton committed to former offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic Michigan State in April 2020. The Colts Neck, NJ, native was a three-star high school recruit. He was ranked the No. 69 interior offensive line recruit in the 2021 class and No. 26 player from New Jersey, per the On3 Industry Rankings .

The 6-foot-7, 320-pound Boyd appeared in every game for Michigan State this season. The East Lansing native appeared in 10 games as a redshirt freshman in 2022, mostly on special teams. He redshirted his true freshman season in 2021.

Boyd committed to the Spartans just weeks prior to Wigenton in April 2020. Like Wigenton, Boyd was a three-star high school recruit. He was ranked the No. 66 offensive tackle recruit in the 2021 class and No. 19 player from Michigan, per the On3 Industry Rankings.

Wigenton and Boyd are the fourth and fifth Michigan State players to announce their intentions to enter the portal Monday, joining linebacker Darius Snow , offensive tackle Spencer Brown and quarterback Katin Houser Michigan State Jonathan Smith as its new head football coach just two days ago, on Nov. 25.

The transfer portal officially opens Dec. 4.
