Mid-Michigan tourist destinations welcome nice fall weather

FRANKENMUTH, Mich. (WNEM) - Nice weather this weekend is helping to fuel another strong October for businesses in Frankenmuth.

One business owner said that October is usually a good month anyway, but good weather is always welcome.

"It's been a strong October for us here in Frankenmuth. We've had nice weather. The weekend coming up is going to be even nicer, so we're really looking forward to that and keeping the momentum going," said Katie Zehnder, family owner of the Bavarian Inn Corporation.

She said this weekend's Scarecrow Fest, which features a pumpkin launcher, should draw a lot of people to town this weekend.

"We often say that October is kind of the kickoff of our season here in Frankenmuth. Our last quarter is very big of course, October, November, and December. And October kind of kicks it off for the remaining rest of the year, and so far, it's looking good," Zehnder said.

She said the nice October weather has helped.

Tourists Mark Johnson and Bobbi Combs agree.

"We're kind of on a fall color tour. Kind of start on the west side of the state, worked our way up to Mackinaw, and kind of working our way down the east side of the state now. So, we started the first of the week, didn't really know how the weather was going to pan out, but it's been fantastic," Johnson said.

"It's a gorgeous place. Love this little town. Great shopping. Great weather," Combs said.

And with the First Alert weather forecast calling for a nice weather weekend, Zehnder hopes you'll spend part of it in Frankenmuth.

"We have a lot of seasonal decor in some of our shops here in the Frankenmuth River Place Shops. So, you can bring your dogs in for this weekend's Scarecrow Fest, and your kids, and your families, so it's really fun for everybody. So it's going to be a great weekend," Zehnder said.

A representative from the Bavarian Inn said there's been a slight uptick in bookings this month.
