Mike McCarthy opens up on 'embarrassing' tablet smash incident as Dallas Cowboys' season spirals

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy admitted he's 'embarrassed' to have thrown a tablet to the ground in an outburst last weekend.

Dallas - after going 12-5 last year - have significantly regressed as they're just 3-5 heading into Week 10.

And McCarthy's frustrations boiled over during a loss to the Falcons last Sunday when the team was stopped on a fourth-and-1.

McCarthy reacted to the play by smashing his tablet to the turf - a move which he said there is 'no excuse for' on Wednesday.

'I'm embarrassed by it,' McCarthy told reporter s. 'It's something that at my age [60 years old], clearly there is no excuse for.

'That's not what I represent. I'm embarrassed as the leader of this team... That was definitely a moment that I wish I had back.'

Dallas would ultimately lose the game - and quarterback Dak Prescott to injury - as their season continued to unravel.

The team is already 3.5 games behind the NFC East-leading Commanders, who are a surprising 7-2 with rookie Jayden Daniels.

'We have five losses and so we clearly understand where that puts us as far as what it will take,' McCarthy said following the 27-21 loss to Atlanta. 'We've got to get to winning.'

That mission will be even tougher with Prescott sidelined, as the quarterback suffered a hamstring injury in the loss to the Falcons.

Owner Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan in Dallas that it was 'likely' that the quarterback would be placed on the injured reserve list - ruling him out for a minimum of four games.

The Cowboys will hope to kickstart their season with a win against the Eagles this weekend.
