MILAM COUNTY, Texas (KBTX) - Authorities in Milam County are looking for at least one shooting suspect. A report of shots fired in Cameron on Tuesday put all Cameron ISD campuses on a soft lockdown . According to a release from the Milam County Sheriff's Office (MCSO), shots were fired in the area of West 9th Street and North Polk Avenue in Cameron. The Cameron Police Department (CPD) advised deputies to check out the Cameron Associates Apartments, where officers believed a suspect, or suspects, had barricaded themselves. CPD obtained a search warrant for the apartment, but then authorities learned the suspect(s) had already left town. No suspects were found in the building. The sheriff's office added, "a Code Red alert was sent out by the Emergency Management Coordinator's Office indicating an active shooter was on the loose. This alert did not originate from the Sheriff's Office and was put out without our input or knowledge." Details about the suspect(s) have not been released. If you have any information about the incident, you're urged to let the Milam County Sheriff's Office know by calling 911 or directly at (254) 697-7033.
