Minnesota Man Gets 12 Years For Fleeing Police And Possessing 1,874 Fentanyl Pills
A Minneapolis man who attempted to outrun police with a stash of fentanyl pills will now face a lengthy prison sentence. Kristopher Raphael Owens, 31, was sentenced to 12 years (144 months) in federal prison followed by four years of supervised release for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl.
The incident occurred on November 28, 2022, when law enforcement officers pulled over Owens, who was driving a gold Chevy Tahoe in Minneapolis. As officers approached his vehicle, Owens decided to make a run for it, fleeing on foot. However, his escape attempt was short-lived as officers quickly apprehended him in a nearby yard.
During the pursuit, officers discovered $1,286 in cash on Owens' person. They also found two baggies containing a staggering 1,874 blue pills discarded along the path Owens had taken. Subsequent testing confirmed the pills contained fentanyl. Owens admitted the pills were his and that he intended to distribute them.
Owens pleaded guilty to one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl on March 13, 2024. His sentencing was handed down yesterday in U.S. District Court by Judge Joan N. Ericksen.
