MISD approves name of new elementary school

MIDLAND, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) – The Midland ISD Board of Trustees voted to approve the name and mascot for the new elementary school during its Board meeting on Tuesday. Located in Lone Star Trails, the Trustees approved the recommended name of Lone Star Trails Elementary School as the school's name and the Armadillos as the mascot.
To determine the new school's name, mascot, and logo, a committee was formed in accordance with district policy. Members of the committee were nominated by school board members to represent their respective districts. MISD teachers were also invited to express interest in joining the committee, with interested teachers chosen at random. Three meetings were held in August before finalizing the decisions and recommendations for the new elementary.
MISD said community engagement played an important role in the naming process. A community-wide survey was distributed through various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and the 2023 MISD Bond website .
