Mississippi State targeting Oklahoma OC Jeff Lebby for HC position, report says
S.Wright3 months ago
A key piece of Brent Venables’ coaching staff could be on the move. According to Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger, Mississippi State is targeting Oklahoma offensive coordinator Jeff Lebby for its vacant head football coaching position. Dellenger also reports that a deal between Lebby and the SEC program is not complete, but discussions are “expected to result in a hire.” Lebby has been the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Oklahoma since Dec. 2021. Before joining Venables’ staff, Lebby spent two seasons running the offense at Ole Miss under Lane Kiffin. Lebby has played a key role in turning Dillon Gabriel into one of the Big 12′s top quarterbacks in the 2023 season. He also spent time under Art Briles on Baylor’s coaching staff, but was let go (along with most of the Baylor staff) after the program’s sexual assault scandal in 2015. Mississippi State’s head coaching spot came open on Nov. 13, when the program moved forward without Zach Arnett. He posted a 4-6 mark this season before the university went in another direction. Greg Knox has served as Mississippi State’s interim coach since Arnett’s firing.Find more Oklahoma coverage from The Dallas Morning News here.
