Mississippi Uber drivers make the least nationally: report

JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – Mississippi Uber drivers may be able to enjoy cheaper fuel than most of the country, but a recent report reveals that they still struggle to arrive at a high salary.

Atlanta-based injury law firm Bader Scott analyzed the average reported yearly earnings data from Salary.com for Uber drivers throughout each state as of July 29. It then compares this data to average state yearly salary figures released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Mississippi Uber drivers rank at the bottom of the national pay scale, making $35,002 yearly.

Bader Scott noted that the difference between that salary and the average salary among Mississippians overall is the smallest nationally. However, the average Mississippi worker makes less money than workers in all other states.

Mississippians with 5th highest share of car debt: report

A necessary expense for most Uber drivres is a car. The average auto debt for Mississippians is $7,385 , the tenth highest amount nationally. This would account for over 21% of the average Uber driver's income. All loan balances for automobiles add up to roughly $15.4 billion statewide.

Mississippians have the second-highest vehicle tax rate nationally at 3.46% on average. For those driving a new car worth $26,000, that adds up to car taxes of $915. That accounts for over 2.6% of the average Mississippi Uber driver's income.

Nationally, the average Uber driver makes $38,610 each year. That is 43% less money than the average American. For those looking to drive for Uber, go to their website to sign up and find incentives to drive for the company.
